Kazi is a cardiologist and health economist who focuses on innovative methods of delivering health care in resource scarce-settings, with a goal of improving access to cost-effective therapies to combat heart disease in vulnerable populations. He has developed and field-tested many of the technologies instrumental to heartMAP, and is an expert in health economics and cost-effectiveness evaluations. He is an Assistant Professor at the University of California San Francisco, and has previously trained and worked at Stanford University, the London School of Economics, University of California San Diego, and the University of Mumbai. He serves on the American Heart Association’s International Science and Programs Subcommittee of the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association. He is a World Heart Federation Emerging Leader and an Asia21 Young Leader.
Prabhakar is the Executive Director of the Center for Chronic Disease Control, a non-profit organization based out of New Delhi dedicated to the control and prevention of chronic diseases in developing countries. He also serves as the Vice President of the Public Health Foundation of India. He is a professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London, UK and an adjunct professor at the Rollins School of Public health, Emory University, Atlanta, USA. He is a world leader in cardiovascular epidemiology and clinical research, having led numerous large trials of interventions to improve cardiovascular care in low-income settings.
Ann is a world-renowned expert in valvular heart disease, and the chair of the American Heart Association’s Rheumatic Fever, Endocarditis, and Kawasaki Disease Committee. She is the William Watt Kerr Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of California San Francisco and the Director of the Echocardiography Laboratory at San Francisco General Hospital. She has previously served on the Board of Directors of the World Heart Federation and as the Chair of the Clinical Cardiology Council of the American Heart Association.
“KK” is a Clinical Professor and Chief of Pediatric Cardiology at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi. He is an internationally recognized expert on rheumatic heart disease and is a President of the Pediatric Cardiac Society of India.
Nimi Mastey, BS
Nimi obtained her MD from Stanford University School of Medicine, where she co-founded heartMAP with Kazi. She is currently a resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Harvard (Brigham and Women’s/Mass General Integrated Program).
Maria is a behavioral scientist with expertise in behavior change and stigma in chronic disease. She is a professor at the University of California San Francisco, and has been the principal investigator of numerous NIH-funded research studies in India, with a particular focus on medication adherence in chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and HIV.
